Daily Mirror-

  • The shortening of the name "Cam's" illustrates that the language is quite informal. This also portrays that the newspaper doesn't have much respect towards David Cameron, therefore, the representation of him is negative.
  • The number "£1,439" is in bold red which really grabs audience's attention and red has a connotation of danger (which is negative). This makes the readers of the magazine think that David Cameron might be dangerous and negative. Furthermore, the red makes the number appear greater and more dramatic than it actually might be.
  • "Cam's" rhymes with scams- this might make some people think that David C. wants to scam them for the money.
  • The image of David C. was used to makes him look like he's quite happy about the whole situation. This makes him look very negative because the newspaper made him look like he actually is pleased about taking the money and the whole story is true.
  • The magazine is aimed at the middle class (C and B) and we can tell that due to the simpler language used on storyline above the main storyline. Furthermore, rich people wouldn't care about their money as much as the ones who don't have so much of it.
  • Person who is in control of the magazine is against David C. and we can tell because the newspaper illustrates him in a negative light.

  • Formal language with the use of personal pronouns. This illustrates that Ed M. takes the people who read the magazine seriously.
  • The newspaper is supporting Labour because Ed M. is a part of it and he is illustrated in a positive light.
  • Pledge has "Ed" in it
  • Ed M. in the image has a direct eye contact with the readers of the magazine, this makes the readers/audience feel involved and like he is talking directly to them and that might make them trust him because he is not scared to give an eye contact

How are ethnic groups represented in the music industry

In Bon Jovi- Wanted Dead or Alive the band members are represented in a normal, positive and stereotypical way. The males are represented as successful, peaceful, not argumentative and there are no swear words present in the song/performance (swear words are stereotypically present in Rap culture in which black people are mainly present). Furthermore, they are dressed as stereotypical white rock stars, they are not wearing chains, baggy jeans or other clothing which is linked with Rappers and stereotypically black people.
In a scene in the music video, door of the limo is held open for Jon Bon Jovi. This illustrates the stereotypical representation of them. Stereotypically black people are not successful and if this video contained black people. the limo door probably wouldn't be held for them. This represents the white nature of the singers in a stereotypical way. Another shot that illustrates they are stereotypical successful men is the shot for them being on a plane. In the days when they used to tour and play, flying on a plane was expensive and thy had the money for it. Stereotypically, black people are poor and wouldn't have enough money to fly on a plane.

2pac-Ghetto Gospel- The title of the song is stereotypical itself. Stereotypically (as mentioned above) black people are poor and live in Ghettos.
In this shot of the music video, there is a group of black males which are dressed in a stereotypical way for black people. They are wearing baggy jeans hanging off their butts, chains and oversized clothing.

BBC iPlayer- Broken

This long shot illustrates to the viewers what the location of the shot is and it also portrays a female character in the mise-en-scene who is surrounded by huge houses which in turn make her looks very tiny and young. The character is young and her being the only present character in the mise-en-scene suggest that the neighbourhood she's in is safe.

The mid shot illustrates the male character present int he mise-en-scene as a kind and friendly looking man. He is wearing work clothing and the props (car, house and the uniform) present int he mise-en-scene illustrate to the audience that he is a hard working and helpful man. He is interacting with another character in a positive way and that is portrayed by his positive facial expressions and hand gestures.

This is a cut away in an action. This shot is between the girl's dad attacking a man and she is looking outside to have a look at what is going on. This cut away is a distraction from the main action occurring in the mise-en-scene. Close up of the character in the mise-en-scene which portrays her facial expression which is quite concerned. Her facial expression illustrates that the girl is upset about what is about to happen and her facial expression illustrates that she has realised that what she has done was wrong.

This is a mid close up shot which portrays feelings of the female character present in the mise-en-scene. The background present in the mise-en-scene is very dull and looks like it wasn't cared about. That could suggest that there is no grown up female present in the house because stereotypically it's the females who look after the house.
This is a two shot. In this shot the older girl is telling the younger girl (both are present int he mise-en-scene) to go back inside after witnessing their dad attacking another man. This illustrates to the audience/viewers that there might be no motherly figure present int he house to tell the girls to get back inside (or to stop the father). Furthermore, that shows that the girls need to care for each other.

Mother India and Dirty Pictures

Female present on the Mother Media advert is illustrated very stereotypically. She is represented as a weak woman and stereotypically females are meant to be the weaker gender. However, she is not sexualised.
Dirty Picture illustrates the female character in a very stereotypical way. She is illustrated and represented as a sex toy. Her cleavage is out and 3 men are around her. Females get many negative words attached to them (for example whore, slag or bitch) and this movie poster suggests that the woman is a whore because 3 men are around her and 2 of them are interested in her and kind of touching her in a sexual manner. Furthermore, the female is wearing red coloured top and lipstick. Red colour has a connotation of love, sex and danger.

250 words analysis on This Girl Can-ot completed

This Girl Can

The women are represented as powerful and independent. They are not ashamed of their body and take pride in it. That is illustrated by including in the mise-en-scene not size 0 models but some curvy women which are not ashamed to do many kinds of activities in the video while for example they sweat a lot/some of their body fat shakes. That breaks a stereotype of girls always trying to look good/pleasant.
The clothing included in the mise-en-scene of the video illustrates to the audience that these women present in these shots are all different and are not afraid to express themselves. All of them are wearing something different and that adds realism to the advert because in real life every human being is different. Only magazines portray the same/specific trades of a female/male (for example a specific weight, hairstyle, beauty etc). Furthermore, it allows a larger number of the population to relate to this advert than for example an advert for a high fashion magazine which only illustrates similar type of women because in this vide there are more women present of different shapes and ethnicity.
